LA Hot Spots: The Abbey Food and Bar

Last night, a few friends and I ventured out into the heart of West Hollywood for some dancing and cocktails. A West Hollywood staple, The Abbey Food and Bar, was our mainstay for the evening. No stranger to the Abbey, I have to say it's one of the more chic, pretty and not to mention clean spots in WeHo (because if you need to know anything about West Hollywood, outside of the fact that it's fabulous, it can also be fucking dirty and disgusting...depending where you dare to go)

As a regular to the The Abbey, the venue's definitely been gaining popularity over the years and is now the most popular (and also overcrowded) spot in WeHo. The recent renovations really transformed the place:

The Balconies (bottle service areas)

Patio Bar

Cabana Bar

David's Bar and Altar Bar (main bar and dance floor)

My favorite bar is the Cabana Bar, just because it's less crowded than the main bars, and the decor is gorgeous. I love drinking a glass of their house Chardonnay sprinkled with berries ($8) and sitting in the cafe tables by the balcony before hitting the dance floor. The overall decor is a Spanish, Gothic, cathedral theme. Lot's of alters, crosses, iron gates, tiled floors and archways. Think: Catholic church in Spain with house music, gay men, pole dancing, hot, shirtless male bartenders, a few lesbians and tons of alcohol.

The main dance floor is a hot sweaty mess of West Hollywood's finest, with DJs spinning electronic remixes of the best top 40 dance tracks. Adele, Kylie Minogue, Beyonce and Gaga definitely hold precedent over everyone else, any given night of the week. While I love Saturday nights at the Abbey, they've become uncomfortable due to tremendous overcrowding, and I recommend Thursday night if you plan to visit for the first time.

Admission is free, smoking IS allowed on the patio (and inside for some of the hot tranny messes that stumble around the dance floor at 1:00am), drinks are not cheap ($11 for a watered-down gin and tonic), but the ambiance is delightful. Plus the crowd is as homosexual as it gets, which is obviously ideal for a self-proclaimed fruit fly like myself. Wear whatever you want, most people run around half naked anyways.

The Abbey serves food too, and the appetizers are damn good. I also hear they have a mean Sunday Brunch, which is totes on my to-do list. Best part--they have a mini bakery which serves delectable desserts all night long. You can find a calendar of The Abbey's weekly events on Facebook.

Here's a sampling of a great track I raged to on the dance floor last night. Happy Sunday Funday, hookers!
